Kiki fragrance, designed 2010
50 ml / 1.6 fl. oz.
edition of 4,000
OBJECT DESCRIPTION
Kiki is the new fragrance from contemporary artist Kiki Smith, designed in collaboration with the award-winning French fragrance designer, Christophe Laudamiel. Kiki is a study of balance and contrast and is unabashedly green and fresh while deeply and unexpectedly, lush, warm, and dynamic. The fragrance evokes Kiki’s most significant olfactory memories: musks, boxwood, patchouli and sandalwood next to fresh, ripe foliage, and fig leaf notes. The uniquely soothing, enveloping warmth and herbaceousness of blue chamomile and the bright and summery smell of narcisse create an incandescent, satisfying and fearless scent that is diffusive and illuminating.

porcelain
saucer: 4.5" diameter
cup: 1.75 h. x 2.5 diameter inches
artist's initials stamped on verso of each piece
Fabricated by Bernardaud
Please email us for current availability.
OBJECT DESCRIPTION
This set of six espresso cups and saucers was designed by Sophie Calle for Bernardaud. Each cup and saucer tells the same story in French of Calle's experience having lunch with a man whose intelligence at first paralyzed but who eventually revealed himself as a regular mind only to leave her feeling the fool. Told in Calle's quick, humorous voice the story carries through from the saucer to the cup.
The story reads (translated from French to English):
(Saucer) His intelligence paralyzed me. He invited me to lunch with him. In order to prepare myself, I asked him what we were going to talk about. A derisory exercise in vain, but I also knew that it would calm me. Point-blank, he asked a question: What makes you get up in the morning? I thought all week. When the day came, I turned to him and he answered the question:
(Cup) The smell of coffee. We changed the subject. At the end of the meal we were served coffee, and I took the cup as a souvenir.

The Broken Juice Glass, designed 2008
set of four six-ounce silkscreened glasses
3½ x 2 3/8 inches, each
edition of 300
OBJECT DESCRIPTION
The Broken Juice Glass is a limited edition set of four different glasses conceived by Roy McMakin, exclusively for Artware Editions. For this edition, the artist has taken the simplicity of four small glasses and imposed on them a complex reworking of the aphorisms “THINGS CHANGE” and “CHANGE THINGS”. Because of their transparency and shape, McMakin is able to use the seriality of the glasses to play out a conceptual progression: the first glass is clear, on the second the phrasing is shown in its entirety on the front of the glass, and on the third and fourth the text is printed in a band around the glass but appears to be illegible. One must perfectly line up the fragmented text (a greater challenge from the third to the fourth) from the front through to the back of these to make sense of the parts. When the glasses are full, the front text appears incoherent but as the glass empties things change and all is clear.
McMakin’s art practice explores how functionality influences meaning within the medias of sculpture, photography, design, and architecture. He has had recent solo exhibitions at such prestigious venues as the Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles; Henry Art Gallery, Seattle; and Matthew Marks Gallery, New York. He lives and works in Seattle.
