The world of happy, hyper-masculine, men-loving men imagined by Tom of Finland provided the template for a proudly gay aesthetic in the 1960s, ’70s and ’80s. The essence of a Tom’s Man is physical: he is vigorous, young, and perfectly formed. The Tom of Finland bookends celebrate Tom’s most iconic figures; here, we meet Durk, the ultimate leatherman. Also available: Pekka, a robust Finnish working man in boots and cap, the name, ironically, meaning “stone”.

Called Tom’s Men, the characters he created in his pen and ink illustrations and comics inspired fans to challenge outdated stereotypes and be fully confident, men-loving men.
