Much of the work by British artist Rachel Whiteread studies the void or empty space surrounding a given object, and the artist designed this daybed with the same interests in mind. This custom Daybed takes the form of the empty space beneath a twin bed; the undulating surface pattern is the form beneath the mattress while the four vertical holes signify the bedposts.
The Daybed is available in 3 soft, nubby Bute wool fabric colors.
Please allow 10 - 12 weeks for fabrication plus time in transit.

Sleep Towel by Kehinde WileyRegular price $125.00
Sleep Towel by Kehinde Wiley
This lightweight, limited edition towel features Kehinde Wiley’s 2008 painting Sleep, reimagined from Jean-Bernard Restout’s 1771 painting of the same name. With luminously painted skin, draped in funerary-like cloth with his feet crossed atop a wooden plank, Wiley personifies his model to reflect the theological narratives permeating throughout his oeuvre. In an attempt to differentiate his works from the singular figure studies of his time, Restout included wings and poppies to his subject, composing a larger narrative beyond the skill of the artist's hand. Although Wiley's rendition deliberately focuses on the physicality of his human subject alone, it simultaneously ushers in the weight of art history behind it, and it’s undeniable exclusion of Black bodies.

Proceeds from your purchase support the artist in residence program Black Rock Sénégal, founded by Wiley in 2019.

Shipped Bench by Helen MirraRegular price $12,500.00
Shipped Bench by Helen Mirra
An essay about Helen Mirra’s solo exhibition at The Whitney Museum of American Art describes her as “not merely a materialist . . . [Mirra] treats materials as if they had intimately observed and idiosyncratic personalities that she seeks to explicate.” For Shipped Bench, Mirra has taken the traditional and simple design of a common bench and treated the material with such reverence and care that it evokes a materiality that goes beyond its form into the elegiac and thoughtful realm of her art.
Shipped Bench is made from planks of reclaimed pallet wood that are methodically painted with an opaque deep grey milk paint and then sanded and painted again and again to achieve an unusual depth of color and an exquisitely silken surface texture. The minimal bench is solidly built but elegant in effect; and adorned with three, unattached square cushions made from Army surplus blankets.
Limited to 25 hand-made examples, each bench is branded with the artist’s signature and edition number and varies slightly in length and width as determined by the found pieces of wood.

Sheep Blanket by Julian OpieRegular price $650.00
Sheep Blanket by Julian Opie
This pure wool blanket by Julian Opie features the artist's signature graphic line. The blanket features nine grazing sheep against a green background. The quiet, natural and innocent motif contrasts with the rigidity of the artist's style to create a composition that displays both tension and air. The blanket's size makes it great as a throw, or it can be displayed as a wall hanging to beautifully fill a large, empty space. Dry clean only.
