LOVE Snow Globe by Robert Indiana
LOVE Snow Globe by Robert Indiana
Robert Indiana (American, 1928-2018) was one of the major figures in American art in the second half of the 20th Century. He played a central role in the development of assemblage art, hard-edge painting, and Pop art. His work explores American identity, personal history, and the power of abstraction and language. Equally a painter, print maker, sculptor, and poet it has been hard to categorize Indiana’s work and fit him into a particular style.

Robert Indiana’s LOVE that uses the unmistakable slanted ‘O’ within a square format first, appeared in 1964 in a series of frottage drawings in graphite and colored pencil. Indiana further developed his concept through a series of paintings, sculpture and prints. Love was a subject of great spiritual significance for the artist. The image’s popularity emphasizes its great resonance with large and diverse audiences, and has become an icon of modern art.

This snow globe features one of Indiana's more popular color ways, red outside and violet inside, which is featured at several art institutions internationally. This Snow Globe comes safely and beautifully packaged in a custom LOVE box, perfect for gifting.

Care and cleaning:
Keep your globe out of direct sunlight. Sunlight shining through the water acts as a magnifier and can cause a fire. Sunlight can also cause the water to discolor. Dust with a soft cloth. Glass cleaner is fine on the globe. The liquid in the globes is purified water with glycol added to prevent freezing. Anti-bacterial is also added to keep the liquid clear. While the liquid in the globe is safe for humans externally, it should not be ingested. CoolSnowGlobes are made of glass and are not toys for children.

Carrie Mae Weems (born April 20, 1953) is an American multi-media artist working in text, audio, instillation, video, textiles and most notably photography. She rose to prominence in the 1990s following her photographic project, The Kitchen Table Series that depicts a fictional drama with Weems as the lead. The series explores the constantly shifting roles of women as lover, mother, daughter, and friend, giving viewers an intimate look at a woman's interior life. Weems's work is steeped in Black history and often serves as contemporary discourse on topics such as familial relationships, cultural identity, systems of oppression, politics, and the consequences of power.

Ringgold's series of posters were created to be distributed at public meetings and displayed at spontaneous protests during the early 1970s. The design for the poster is linked to the composition of paintings in Ringgold’s Black Light Series #11: US American Black (1969).

Chess Set by Man Ray
Chess Set by Man Ray
Man Ray designed this elegant chess set because of his lifelong friendship with Marcel Duchamp who was an avid chess player. He sought to use pure geometric forms associated historically and figuratively with the pieces they represent. The King represents the Egyptian king's pyramid; the Queen is the conical headdress of a medieval queen; the Bishop represents a flask for concocting healing liqueurs; and the Knight is based on a favorite form -- the carved scroll found on a violin. Only a handful were ever produced in Man Ray's lifetime (the maharajah of Indore commissioned a set made from silver-plated brass), and this re-issued design is rendered in wood and based on an original example from the Metropolitan Museum of Art's collection.
A solid beech wood chessboard that beautifully compliments this set is also available for $290.
Made in Germany under license with the Man Ray Trust.
