This porcelain plate features a detail from Kehinde Wiley’s 2008 painting Mame Ngagne. Originally exhibited at the Studio Museum in Harlem in The World Stage: Africa, Dakar, Lagos, Wiley’s model was cast from the streets of Dakar.
Each coupe plate is 10.75" and shows a stamped signature on the verso. The plates are individually boxed.

Taking on a more regional approach, Wiley turned to many post-colonial sculptures throughout Lagos and Dakar for reference poses for his models.
