    Malia Jensen's Multiples

Malia Jensen, a 44-year-old artist in Brooklyn, considers her life-size painted bronze cherries and stainless steel bird feet to be small sculptures. But whether they are art, functional objects (paperweights?) or simply decorative, they are certainly tactile. Ms. Jensen began making them in 2008, working in wax. When she made the cherries, she said, “I thought of them as a play on still lifes, and on painted still lifes, so I painted the bronze with an enamel.” The feet belong to no particular species. “I made them up,” she said. “I imagine them to be pigeons.” But she has a definite idea about how they should be used: “Stamp them on wet concrete, or cake frosting or sand,” she said.

    Peter Eudenbach's "Chimera"

Looking for a decoration to take you from Halloween to Christmas? Peter Eudenbach may have a little something-something for you. The conceptual artist in Norfolk, Va., took cast-metal bluejays' feet manufactured for taxidermists and wood carvers and attached them to a mouth-blown glass ornament. He photographed the weird but wonderful results, barely 3 inches tall, for his 2009 holiday card. It caught the eye of Artware Editions, a New York firm that sells artist-designed household goods. Now Eudenbach is producing a limited run of the hand-assembled "Chimera." The title of the piece, Eudenbach said, "is a term used in genetics and mythology relating to any kind of fusion between two creatures." In this case, the ornament sprouting feet represents the fusion of "the animate and inanimate, the natural and the commercial, the end of winter and the beginning of the spring..."

The fragrance combines woody scents like musk, sandalwood, and patchouli with splashes of warm fruity flavors such as fig and black currant. Smith’s favorite component? The boxwood shrub – which she fondly describes as a faint cat-pee odor that reminds the artist of her grandmother’s garden."

Amanda fragrance captures gentle elegance, glamour and the amazing power of new molecular Orriniff, which provides warm notes of iris root and amber, and creates an ideal platform for the floral notes such as tuberose, orange blossom and violets. Sparkling citruses and Cristal champagne aromas are inspired by Italian Renaissance elixirs. Accords of cucumber, strawberry and red lip stick contribute to the mischievousness composition."

    Kiki fragrance from Kiki Smith

When Kiki Smith was in college, she took a picture of herself for a school magazine with the words “scratch and sniff” written beneath. No actual scent was emitted, but Smith’s preoccupation with odor evidently never disappeared, which helps explain her latest collaboration: a limited-edition perfume she is launching this month with Artware Editions. One of its strongest notes—boxwood shrub—is as unconventional as the artist."

    Jonathan Van Dyke's Emma cup

The shape of cooling towers, the coffee cup, the hand-made vessel - these things come together in my mind. I love the cast concrete surface of the cooling towers, and that's how I first turned to Hydrocal plaster. Each cup is cast from the sort of real cups one might find anywhere and are named after women I know, starting with the small espresso cup, Barbara, named for my high school art teacher."

    John Gerrard's Bone Cutlery

Both a Michael Pollan-esque commentary on knowing where your food comes from and a bit of dare-devil design, John Gerrard's primal place settings were cast from the bones of single goat — the knife and soup spoon fit together and hinge like a tibia and metatarsus. (Not shown: salad servers cast from scapulae.) Gerrard, an animation artist, worked with French silversmiths to add classic heads to the animalistic handles so the silver-plated pieces are properly weighted and have a pleasing hand-feel.
